Dr. Adrian Helmsley, part of a worldwide geophysical team investigating the effect on the earth of radiation out of unprecedented solar storms, and learns that the planet's core is heating up. He warns U.S. President Thomas Wilson that the crust of the earth is getting shaky and without proper preparations for saving a small percent of the planet's population, the entire race is doomed. Meanwhile, the writer Jackson Curtis stumbles about exactly the details.
